Independence Day Festivities

The 4th of July is one of our favorite holidays! We had a blast again this year! We kicked off the festivities on Saturday by going to downtown Newnan's Market Day on the Square. We walked around for a bit, saw an owl which Adeline thought was very neat, and let Adeline try out a carnival ride. To say she had fun on the ride would be an understatement! We followed that up with lunch at Moe's with MoMo and PoPo and returned home to make homemade ice cream for Sunday and let the girls take naps.

She was having more fun than the big kids!

Daddy has his hands full! :)

On Sunday, we spent a lovely morning relaxing and playing at the pool. That afternoon we had a cookout with most of both sides of our family. I think I can speak for everyone when I say we were stuffed after eating Jared's delicious steaks, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, corn on the cob, grilled veggies, homemade Reese's ice cream, and cupcakes! As soon as we finished eating, we all went over to Newnan High School's football stadium to watch the fireworks. Adeline, Natalie and Emma got to run around. Some of the adults played poker using the girls' goldfish as chips (you do what you gotta do!). It was a nice, relaxed evening. Adeline enjoyed every bit of the fireworks show as we figured she would. I'm looking forward to seeing how Cora reacts to fireworks when she gets a little older!

Strolling to the stadium...

Adeline took a break to check on her baby sister!

Bustin' a Move

Cora started out on the blanket under her Baby Einstein caterpillar while I was in the shower. She had a great time for the first ten minutes and then decided she was done! She started crying and within a couple of minutes had pushed herself across the bathroom floor!

June

If I had to use one word to describe June, it would be HOT!!! The heat really put a damper on Adeline's mission to spend as much time outside as possible! I have to say though, she has started entertaining and playing by herself much better than she ever has before. In the past, wherever she was playing in the house, she wanted someone right there with her. She's definitely a social butterfly! We did spend enough time outside for her to learn how to pedal her tricycle. The only problem she has now is watching where she's going. She ends up all over the road because she's busy sightseeing! We try to go to the pool several times a week. Adeline loves to swim! It seems like every time we go she gets more confident. I can barely make it in the water myself now before she's jumping off the side. She doesn't need us to catch her anymore. As for Adeline and the "terrible twos," we have definitely noticed some attitude issues. There's no doubt now nor ever has been that she's strong willed, but some days it's a little more than others. Despite her occasional rough patches, she's definitely still our happy, sweet, loving little girl and this stage will pass!

Cora has grown a lot this month! She gained more than two pounds and those adorable creases continue to get deeper! She's become much more alert and smiled for the first time at four weeks. She's never woken up more than once in the night since her fourth night. So far, the only time she may really crank up the crying is in the evening after her 7:00 feeding. We've found than an immediate fix to her crying is to take her outside. As soon as we step out, her crying stops. It's amazing!

Notice Cora's "old man" hair line! She has lost all her hair on top but still has it on the sides and back!

We love watching Adeline and Cora together. Adeline is such a sweet big sister! Most mornings when Cora is laying on the couch, Adeline will share her cherished "baby" and blanket with Cora and lay down right beside her. She tries to "entertain" Cora with toys and we have to remind her frequently to not hug Cora when she's in the swing. I'd much rather remind Adeline twenty times a day to not squeeze Cora too tightly than have to persuade her to come near her baby sister! It's so wonderful to see the love growing between them!

Cora's One Month Check-up

Cora's one month well visit went great today! She remained cooperative for everything and Adeline was very excited to be taking "Baby Cora" to see the doctor. Cora weighed 9lbs 4oz (52nd percentile), measured 21.5in (67th percentile) and head circumference was 36.5cm (37th percentile). She's met the developmental goals for this age which obviously there aren't many. That basically means she can hold her head up, respond to sound, and can fix on faces. We'll be making our next visit to Dr. Rice at two months!

Adeline's Helmet

Adeline got a tricycle for her birthday, but we kept it inside until we found a helmet that would fit her tiny head. Jared's been researching and found one on Amazon that has a strap in the back that can be tightened down for smaller heads. We should definitely get our money's worth because she should be able to wear it until she's about five. The helmet was delivered yesterday. Adeline got very excited when we told her the box was for her. She said, "Happy Birthday!" She put it on for a few minutes and was then ready for it to come off. Jared needed to get it back on her to see if he adjusted it to the right size so he put on his helmet to get her to put on her's. I think she wore the helmet for the next hour!

She even wanted to wear it while eating dinner!

Cora's Two Week Weight Check

The trip to the doctor for Cora's weight check was my first outing with both of the girls. We made it! It went very well! The appointment was for 8:30. We got there at 8:34. I considered this to be a great success since we were about to walk out of the house at 8:23 (which would have gotten us there by 8:30) when Adeline decided she urgently needed to go to the potty. We ran to the potty and still made it only four minutes late!

We waited in the Well Room until the nurse was ready to take us to a room. As we walked to the room, I looked behind me to make sure Adeline was following and saw that she had loaded herself down with toys from the Well Room that she was bringing into the other room. Thankfully, the nurse didn't mind because I had my hands full with the carrier! We did return the toys when we were finished!

Cora weighed 7lbs 8oz! She was 5oz over her birth weight and up 8oz from her check-up the week before. Adeline thought she needed to be weighed as well. She weighed 24.0lbs which was actually up a little from her 2 year check-up. We'll go back in a couple of weeks for Cora's one month appointment!

Cora's First Bath

Cora's umbilical cord fell off this past Saturday so she had her first bath on Sunday! She slept right through it! I take that as a sign that she liked it. She did wake up crying as the water drained out and she was getting rinsed off, but all in all, I think she greatly enjoyed her first bath!

Cora was wondering why we had been holding out on her with this whole bath thing!

Adeline lost interest!

Cora really wanted warmth at this point!
